Way to go, Allison! The process you went through with Prof. Porcheddu, and through your own initiative, in creating this class is admirable...and I would expect nothing less from such a stellar human being as you. You must feel so gratified to have had the immense and immediate response from the students for this course. I commend you for being able to learn and adapt along with your students as the class took its course. Bravo!
I took my first children's Literature course in high school, nicknamed "Kiddie Lit", in which we not only studied children's lit, but we wrote, designed, and submitted our own picture book as a final project.
I'm so happy for you and am grateful to have met you four years ago.
Best wishes to you for what promises to be a bright future!

I would love to receive the list of all of the children's lit selections for the course. I am a retired elementary teacher and now read to my grandchildren.

Congratulations, Allison, on your role in developing the first Children's Literature course
at Denison. My history/english major at Denison led to a career in education, first as a high school teacher and later as a high school librarian. There weren't many career options for girls in
1960, but education is sooooo important. We desperately need men and women in our public schools who are bright, energetic and educated in the liberal arts.

By the way, those Dr. Seuss books are still going strong. Our 3 year old grandson is already a fan.

What a neat class and congratulations! I went on the website to see where our son Charlie will be living next year as a freshman and had to read about this new class. (You may have made the presentation at the summer orientation- if so, it was great!)I just got back from having lunch with my cousin today who recently retired from Cassingham Elementary in Bexley Ohio and is having her first book published called Someone Special (Peg Caryer Antle) in the fall to discuss marketing, etc. How special and important books are to all of us! Our best to you and maybe he can get into a class as he is thinking of education and loves books! Karen Houk
