A fall harvest of summer research
Each fall, the campus is treated to three special events that highlight the work of Summer Scholars at Denison.
Scores of students stay on campus for a minimum of 10 weeks each summer and work in close collaboration with faculty members on the sort of focused research and creativity that is usually reserved for grad students at other institutions.
Funded by individual donors and grants, students follow up their summer pursuits with a series of heavily attended “poster” sessions in the fall, where they discuss their intellectual passions.
“It’s a valuable opportunity to think deeply about their work and to practice articulating complex ideas to others,” says Associate Professor of Biology Jessica Rettig of the Summer Scholar capstone.
Here’s a gallery of photos from both the science and humanities events, and check back in October for photo highlights from the upcoming session in the fine arts.
