In the 1930's I grew up in Granville - Sunday afternoons were "walk" and "adventure" time. We loved to walk up the valley of Spring Valley - we carved initials on the tree trunks. We were happy to have the swimming pool built. Before, we swam in an abandoned quarry that filled with water and ice skated at the same frozen quarry - usually after Thanksgiving. The quarry was "next door" to Spring Valley.

In the '40s Spring Valley was where we went to swim. During the war (WWII), the Navy built a tower in the swimming pool to teach the V-12 recruits at Denison how to abandon ship if it ever became necessary for them to do so and how to use their uniforms to help them stay afloat.

I enjoyed the picture and story. We went swimming there in the 1990's and the grounds and pool were unique. Water very cold.
