Back in action
It was a tad chilly for the start of Reunion Weekend 2012, but that didn’t stop the more than 1,100 people who showed up on campus for the Parade of Classes, the Alumni Convocation, campus tours, classes, dinners, dancing, and an all around great time.
By Saturday morning, a warm sun was shining down on the classes of ’91, ’92, and ’93, while their members listened to a live band on the East Quad and sifted through old issues of the Adytum with longtime friends. Across campus, kids rocked the bounce house on the Reese~Shackelford Common, picnics were in full swing, and smiles and laughter dominated the scene.
In the midst of it all, many colleagues and former students gathered to pay tribute to Wally Chessman, the beloved history professor who passed away last summer. Others headed over to the old Alpha Tau Omega house, which was named to honor the late Ruth and Sam Schaff ’38, emeritus professor of education, retired registrar, and the advisor to the ATOs for 18 years.
Later that night, Old School, a local classic rock band and Reunion mainstay, cranked it up and the crowd cut loose on the dance floor under the tent.
