Brand new Browns

Take heart, Cleveland Browns fans. Today, NFL owners unanimously voted to approve Jimmy Haslam as the team’s new owner and, in the wake of a 1-5 start, the long-suffering team is making some big changes. As their first step, they’re installing Joe Banner ’75 as CEO in place of current team president Mike Holmgren, who will retire at the end of the season.

Joe Banner ’75

Banner, who studied economics at Denison, previously served as president of the Philadelphia Eagles from 2001 to 2012. After graduating from Denison, he worked as a sports reporter in Philadelphia for a time before opening a chain of clothing stories in Boston called Designer’s Clothing. He later headed up the non-profit organization City Year before joining the Eagles in 1994.

New Browns owner Jimmy Haslam told The Cleveland Plain Dealer that Banner will begin his new role on October 25.
