Nice to meet you, Dr. Weinberg

On Monday, Nov. 12, the campus community was formally introduced to Dr. Adam Weinberg, who will become the next president of Denison on July 1, 2013, the day after President Knobel retires after 15 years at the helm.

Swasey Chapel was packed, and from start to finish, there were expressions of good cheer and heartfelt affection for the college. President Knobel opened the event with poignant words of praise for his eventual successor. Chair of the Board of Trustees Tom Hoaglin ’71 then spoke about not only the attributes, experiences and skills that make Weinberg the perfect fit as Denison’s next president, but also the myriad reasons why Denison has benefited so greatly during President Knobel’s tenure.

And when Weinberg stepped to the microphone, that theme continued. “Before I do anything else,” he said, “I want to congratulate President Knobel. I hope that I can respect his legacy by continuing it.”

“At Denison, it all comes together because of the people,” Weinberg said. “This is the most welcoming community in the United States. I’m impressed with the way learning extends to every nook and cranny of this place. A Denison education couldn’t take place anywhere else. It takes place across every moment of a student’s experience here. If you allow it to be, once you come here, Denison is a place where you really never leave.”

The Swasey Chapel event was followed by a reception in the Burton D. Morgan Center, where campus and local community members were able to greet Dr. Weinberg personally.
