Dressing down and gettin’ down
There was once such a thing as “Bermuda Shorts Day”—a designated day in the spring during which coeds were free to dress “down” from their normally required attire of dresses and skirts. As one alumna of the 1950s put it in a recent issue of Denison Magazine, wearing Bermuda Shorts was one thing, but wearing them in front of Doane was a cheeky bit of rebellion—albeit a pretty tempered one.
But dancing the jitterbug while wearing Bermuda shorts? That must have had the administration wondering what the world might be coming to.
