Timothy Carpenter, Director of Denison’s Gospel Choir and known on campus as REV, has been commissioned by the Department of Theatre and Dance along with the Merge Dance Company of Texas State University to record and perform an arrangement of “Stand Up,” from the movie “Harriet,” composed by Cynthia Erivo and Joshuah Brian Campbell. Carpenter has arranged songs for various gospel artist including “Lift Up Your Heads” for Fred Hammond on the Grammy Winning, “Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration” project produced by Quincy Jones. For “Stand Up”, he recreated elements from the original soundtrack while adding flavors of sounds of authentic African instruments.

The event is in collaboration with Bernard Brown, (Sacramento State University), Kim Olson, (Colorado), Natalia Reza and El Cuerpo Academico Den Artes Escenicas, (Mexico) as well as Texas State Dance faculty Ana Baer, Misti Galvan and Christa Oliver.

The virtual performance will be available for viewing April 19, 2021, beginning at 7:30pm, until April 25, 2021 at midnight.
